Finding flow
Being creative
Lately, I have been designing more. I am creating new typefaces I am interested in. Creativity is one of my central values in life. I want to make something people can use to express my visual identity. The process of designing brings me into a flow state, which I find fulfilling. It’s where you focus on shapes and curves and forget everything around you. The first part of a project feels like creating a sculpture because you need to find the shape in black and white. You move back and forth until you see the shape you want, the voice inside the typeface. It is refreshing to come back to this process. I had a bit of a break last year because of the move and all the traveling I did.
This year already feels like I have laid the ground to plant roots here in Vienna, but more importantly, inside me, the seeds for creativity and self-expression are set in this city that is nurturing me right now with friendship, art, beauty, and nature.
I had missed the peacefulness found in moments of creativity for a while in the last few years, and now, finding it again is fulfilling. As a creative person, you can sometimes not feel so inspired or productive, and taking breaks is okay.
For me, it happened after COVID-19, when I got more involved in project management and other types of work. It was also challenging and fulfilling, but feeling inspired and producing again gives me a purpose and a calm unique to the creative process. As I heard Seinfeld say in an interview, we are too worried about wasting time; the trick is to waste time on the things you love.
What do you like wasting time with?
What is your creative outlet?
What can bring the state of flow?
Also, I am a fan of Seinfeld, and as you can see, his approach to life and the creative process is super inspiring. I can explore this more in other posts.

Thank you for including the drawing of your font design process. It’s so interesting and inspiring. Keep in the flow!
